Book Recommendation Are You There God, It's Me Margaret

"Are you there God, its me Margaret" is about a girl who moves from the city of New York to the suburbs of New Jersey and is going through changes. On moving day, she hears a knock on the door and it is a girl from down the street named Nancy Wheeler. She asks Margaret if she would like to go run in the sprinklers with her at her house. Margaret asks her mom and she walks down the street with Nancy talking about school and classes. They both find out that they will be in the same class together. Once they get to Nancy's house, Nancy lets Margaret borrow one of her swimming suits. Margaret changes into the suit right in front of Nancy and Nancy realizes that Margaret is not as mature as she is. After they go in the sprinklers, Nancy walks Margaret home and asks if she would like to join her secret club of girls. Margaret isn't to sure what the club is but she is willing to join and find out. Nancy also mentions: NO SOCKS! On the first day of school, they have their first club meeting and start talking about boys and more girlish things. They also try to think of a good name for their club: SGCT-Sixth Grade Cu-ties. Everyone hated it. Someone else suggested MJB- Miles J. Benedict (their school) Still not good. Nancy thought of PTS-Pre-Teen sensations. They loved it! in the club they also made up a boy journal. Every week, you put in boys names that you like and pass your journal around to everyone. Every week, it has to be a different name though. Margaret also goes on trips with her grandma. But her with her friends an school, how is she going to be caught up with all of it? Will she choose her friends or family??? By: Mrs. Cheese

Percy Jackson-Book VS. the Movie

Have you read the Lightning Thief book by Rick Riordan? How about seen the movie? Well, if you've read the book, you would probably know its very different from the movie. First of all, what happened to Ares and Clarisse?!?!? Did they just dissolve in the middle of nowhere!?!?!? What about the whole storyline!?!?!? In the book, they're traveling to Hades lair in search of the lightning bolt, but in the movie, they're going to collect the pearls!?!?!? We liked the movie, but it would've been better if it followed the book more!!!!!!! We would like to hear what everybody else thought. There are many changes from the book to the movie, and it changed a lot of the story. What did we think? Comment about your thoughts!

The Book Without Words Recommendation

In the book The Book Without Words there are many strange and weird parts to read. For example one day there is a old man named Thorston THE next day the old man is twenty years younger! Weird isn't it? The reason why is because Thorston has The Book Without Words. This book holds many secrets, including how to get younger! However, to become younger he must sacrifice a child. The child must be the same age as when Thorston was when he stole the Book Without Words. Another strange part in the story is when a 14 year old boy named Damian gets turned into a piece of gold just because he made the old man upset! That's got to be harsh. Finally I would like to say this if you like old people who can control magic and talking ravens and goats, The Book Without Words is perfect for you. YEAH I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU!

The Homework Machine-Book Recommendation

The Homework Machine is a great book by Dan Gutman. If you are into mystery/fiction, then this is the book for you. There are 2 books-The Homework Machine and its sequel. They are both filled with adventure, and some mystery! The book is about four kids-two are geniuses, one is average, and another just doesn't care. The smartest one of all of them creates something really unexpected. After that, and some adventures in a certain canyon-everything turns out all right-well for now.

Top Five Fantasy Books-One Person's Guide

This is a list of some of my favorite fantasy books I'm recommending.
Thanks!!! Sushirox17

5. The Percy Jackson series-an action-filled storyline about a boy called Percy who finds out that the gods and monsters of ancient Greece are real and the adventures he has as a demigod.

4. The Fablehaven series- these books are about a magical sanctuary where magical creatures are kept away from humans.

3. Gail Carson Levine books like Ella Enchanted and Fairest, about a magical world with many kingdoms floating on a vast ocean and for the most part, the rulers of the kingdoms.

2. The Graveyard Book-the story is about a boy called Nobody who lives in a Graveyard and is raised by the dead.

1. The Mysterious Benedict Society-a series about four children who have to save the U.S.A from messages trying to turn people against the government.

The Alchemyst

Do you likes magic? Yes? Than you should consider The Alchemyst, by Michael Scott. It is about two twins named Sophie and Josh who work across the street from each other in San Fransisco. Josh works at a small bookstore under management from Nick and Perry Fleming. Sophie works at a coffee shop. Their worlds are both turned upside down when a strange group of men dressed in black walk into the bookstore. After a series of explosions, the twins find out that Nick Fleming is not at all who people think he is. He is Nicholas Flamel, a legendary alchemyst. Perry Fleming is also a type of alchemyst, her real name is Perenelle. The twins find out that an evil sorcerer called Dr. John Dee stole an ancient book called the Codex, or The Book of Abraham the Mage that provides people with eternal life. This leads them on an epic chase through California and other countries to get the Codex back. Some people have read this book and some haven't, but it was a New York Times bestseller and I would highly recommend it to any fans of the practice of magic.

Devil's Arithmetic-Book Recommendation

The Devil's Arithmetic is one of my favorite books. Also, because since I'm Jewish it also helped me to understand my Jewish heritage. It is about a girl named Hannah who is going to a holiday dinner and opens the door to a the prophet Elijah. When she does she somehow time travels back in time and becomes the person who she was named after-Chaya Abramowicz in 1939 during the Halacaust. Somehow her brother is getting married when the Nazis come. They are taken away to the camp where the are supposedly going to be able to work for freedom. People that cannot do what the Nazis want at the camp are killed in a gas chamber. Chaya meets some friends along the way and tries to escape and there is great intrigue as to what will happen to all of the characters. It is not guaranteed that they will all make it to the end of the story. However, if you read the book you will find the true meaning of friendship in the story and really find the true meaning of family.

the Uglies Series

To me the Uglies Series is an amazing series. This story is about a girl named Talley Youngblood and her adventures to stop people from becoming bubble heads. She is trying to figure out how people and why people do are turned into bubble head.A bubble head is someone who has become sort of a robot-they all have the same personality and act in a strange manner.

The story evolves around Talley and her friends Shay, Fausto, and the rest of the cutters or crims. The town of Prettyville, where the story is set, has different cliques. There are the crims, short for criminals, that are the dangerous and outcast in the cast. The cutters are younger characters who are stronger than the other characters. Their brains are programmed to make them believe they are better than everyone else.

There are many different types of characters and names for groups of people in this science fiction series. Read it to get in on the action and keep track of all the excitement.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe-Book Recommendation

If you are in to fantasy and magical worlds (with lots of action) then "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" from the Narnia series. Even though I don't think that the other books are very exciting, this one is the best. The book is about four children that have to move to England because their parents have died. In England they are going to stay with a professor-and that's where the adventure begins. The kids are playing a game of hide-and-seek in the professor's mansion, and they discover a wardrobe that will take them to a secret world. But in this world, the people (and talking trees) are going through some tough times.
You'll have to read the book to see what happens next!

Sisters Grimm-Series Recommendation

The Sisters Grimm series by Michael Buckley are great books. It is about these 2 kids named Sabrina and Daphne Grimm whose parents got kidnapped by this mysterious organization called the Scarlet Hand.So they go to all these different people and foster homes. They finally ended up in Ferryport Landing with their grandmother. There they meet these people, animals, and things from fairy-tale stories called Everafters. The Everafters are trapped in the city because Wilhelm Grimm who is Sabrina's and Daphne's great-great-great (I'm not sure how many greats there are) grandpa worked with Baba Yaga, an old witch to put a magical barrier up and when the last Grimm dies or when all the Grimms move out of Ferryport Landing , the barrier goes down.So most of the Everafters in Ferryport Landing are trying to kill or get rid of the Grimms. The Grimms are staying in the city because if the barrier goes down the world would be in chaos. All Everafters won't die of age because they don't age, they could only die if someone killed them. It's a great action-humor-mystery series. The first book is called Fairy-tale Detectives. There are right now 7 books each with about 300-400 pages. It's a really good series and I highly recommend it.

Letters From Camp-Book Recommendation

Letters From Camp is a great mystery. It is about six children (brothers and sisters) that go to a camp called Happy Harmony where they are going to get along. The counsels at first seem nice but in the end they turn out mean. At the camp the kids are made to do work day and night. The counselors try to poison the kids and make them wear hideous clothes! One of the counsels (Dorothy) is using too much money and they are going bankrupt! Dolly and Dwayne are trying to poison their siblings! This is a very visual book and that is one reason why we recommend this book. This book is told through letters, journal entries, pictures, recipes, ledgers, receipts, and other papers that give the story a uniqueness about it that you will not see in other mysteries. Another reason we like this book the way it is written from each child's perspective, and each letter is different. As you can see there's a lot going on but you'll have to read the book to find out what happens at the end! This is a great book for your mystery project.

Enjoy your reading!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians series

I have recently read the Percy Jackson and the Olympian series. The series has five books: Book one - The Lightning Thief; Book two - The Sea of Monsters ; Book three - The Titans Curse; and Book four - The Battle of The Labyrinth. The last book, my favorite, is The Last Olympian. All of thees books have a great plot and outstanding adventure. The main character is Percy Jackson he is a Demi-God along with is friends Grover and Annabeth. If you read this series I HIGHLY recommend that you read the books in order. Each book has great events that change the series. The series represents some of m favorite books . Percy finds out he's a demi-god in the first book and stays at a camp safe for demi-god (half bloods) the camp is called half blood camp. the camp is very important in the series. The evil gods and demi-gods are always going at it. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth are trustworthy in each other and are always ready for a great adventure. In the first book Percy finds out who is father (god) is. Then has to go on an amazingly important "quest". In the begging of the series Percy gets his first Greek rig. He got a pen and when you take the cap off it becomes a sword that he can never lose. I think this is an amazing series and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good and long series. Each book has around 250-390 pages. They are great for response journals, but do take a little while to read. My finale thoughts: This is going in my mind as the greatest series since the well loved Harry Potter. I hope you get a chance to either check the books out from the school library or the Public library that I believe are available most of the time at the Public library and sometimes in the school library. Thank you for reading and enjoy reading books.

Talent Series By: Zoey Dean

The first book is about a girl named Emily who came to Hollywood and is noticed by a 13 year old girl whose mom is the best agent in Hollywood. Emily is noticed when she sneaks into a Hollywood premiere party to see her all time favorite star. mac the girl whose mom is an agent saw this and pretended that Emily was her client to her competition to win Social chair. Mac is now determind to talk Emily into auditioning for movies. Mac's friends Coco and Becks are doubting her until they hear the response. The rest of this book is about how they convince Emily to stay and try to make her the BIGGEST star!!!!
Book#2: In the second book Mac discovers that her newest best friend Emily is not the only one with talent , but her older best friends Coco and becks do too!!!!!! Mac is now trying to win Social Chair AND make her best friends famous. though out this book there are disasters and non-disasters. two of the biggest disasters can cost mac Social Chair and maybe even Emily's audition. The first disaster is that Coco is kicked out of her position as head cheerleader , and when she tries to get revenge she gets embarassed! Also at the four best friends sleepover something is recorded and is posted for EVERYONE to see. This book does have a pretty good ending.
Book#3: In the third book is probably the best because it is when everything they had been working for happens. In this book Emily starts shooting for her new movie that she is starring in with her star crush and biggest obsession Davey. Everything is going well except for that Emily's nerves are taking over and Mac tries to cheer her up a little. Unfourtuneatly Mac's idea of cheering her friend up turns into a disaster. Then Coco ends up singing at a coffee shop in the middle of no where. She gets a lot of applaud and fans , but her mom will not approve of this if she finds out. Becks gets a modeling contract for a surf brand but her first photo shoot might ruin everything. Also a mysterious firing of a model has Becks even more nervous. This book has fights and happiness but also a good story!

Love, Stargirl

Love, Stargirl is a realistic fiction book about a girl named Stargirl (cool name, huh?) who can't get over a breakup with her old boyfriend, Leo. She moved from her high school in Arizona to being home schooled in Pennsylvania, and meets some very interesting people in her new neighborhood. The first person she meets is Dootsie, the 5-year-old "human bean" that always cheers her up. Well, not always, especially when she is coming in Stargirl's house and jumping on her at 3:00 in the morning! Sooner or later she meets Perry Delophane, the homeless boy who has a harem and always sucks on lemons, and she starts to like him more everyday. In a couple days, she begins to like like him. She also meets Betty Lou, who hasn't left her house in nine years but is great for advice. So... will she stay true to Leo? Will she choose Perry? Read the book to find out!

I love the characters in this book, but above all, my favorite character is Stargirl. This is because she is kind-hearted, she knows how to treat little kids (she's 16), and even though she can't stop thinking about Leo and is constantly frustrated by Perry, she always tries to make everyone happy. She is unlike any 16-year-old you will ever meet. She is mature. I also think Betty Lou, Dootsie, Perry, Leo, and Stargirl fit together extraordinarily well for people who are not alike in any way. With this book, you get a little bit of everything in a wide variety of events, and that's why I fell in love with it and would recommend Love, Stargirl to anyone without question.

Touching Spirit Bear-Book Summary

Touching Spirit Bear is a wonderful book. This book follows the life of Cole Mathews as he redeems himself after committing a crime (beating up a boy, Peter Driscal.) He considers himself to be lucky because instead of going to jail he goes to a remote island in Alaska. His new home for the next year consists of a hut by the ocean and tools that will help him along the way. The first time Cole went to the island he just kept making it harder and harder to survive until he couldn't. The reason for his soon ending stay at the island is caused by Cole getting mauled by a bear. After 6 months of recovering he goes back to the island to finish what he started. Once Cole's stay was almost over he insisted for Peter to come visit for a while, thinking maybe Peter could make up with him. In the end Cole had made an extraordinary change from community bully to a wise young man.

We believe that this book was one of the best books Ben Mikaelsen wrote. What are your thoughts on the book?

Al Capone Does My Shirts-Book Recommendation

If you like realistic fiction books, then "Al Capone Does My Shirts"; by Gennifer Choldenko is the perfect book for you! "Al Capone Does My Shirts" is about a 12 year old boy named Moose who lived in 1935, the time of the Great Depression. He had to move to Alcatraz Island because his dad had to take a job as a guard/engineer on Alcatraz Island. It was very hard moving because..... wait, did I mention that Alcatraz Island is a prison?
Personally, I like this book because There are a lot of conflicts and problums in the story, mostly at the middle and end of the book. My favorite character in the story is Piper, Moose's enemy/friend. She's very sly and sneaky. You should really give this book a try! What does everybody else think?
