Graveyard Book Review and Recommendation

The graveyard book would be a good book for you if you like fantasy and horror. It takes place in a graveyard in England. There is a person trying to kill the main character Nobody Owens {Bod}. He has a family but they are killed by the killer named the Man Jack. This is how the book begins. Afterward, people in an abanded graveyard adopt him. The people in the graveyard have been dead for almost 500 years. He has lots of adventures in the graveyard. He even goes outside the graveyard which is not safe for him. I think the graveyard book is a very good book because the book got very scary. If you like scary books this would be a good book for you hope you like the book. by: fly to cheese

Graveyard Book Review and Recommendation

The graveyard book WAS AWESOME!! I would totally read this book with a partner. The reason I would read this with a partner is because is because some of the events and language (British words) are hard to understand, so it helps to discuss it with someone else. This book was about a baby who is being hunted by a man named THE MAN JACK! The baby (Bod is his name) went into a graveyard and got adopted by GHOSTS and got the freedom of the graveyard. The freedom of the graveyard means you can get ghost POWERS! As Bod grows up in the graveyard the man jack FAILS to KILL him!

Rachel Carson-Pioneer of Ecology Review

Rachel Carson, what an extraordinary woman! She was the first woman to be a official scientist for the government. She had a knack for writing, but in college she decided to be a scientist. She was against the use of pesticides, and wanted to put a stop to it. That was when she wrote "Silent Spring" an article telling how everyone would die from the poisoning from DDT, and how there would be no birds to hear when spring comes. the article was very touching, but sadly Rachel Carson did not live to see it published. on April 4, 1964 Rachel Carson's life was taken by cancer. She did not get to hear the chirping of the birds that spring. Rachel Carson had a very silent spring. It was a very sorrowful year for us all, but the end as they say is a new beginning. I usually don't like nonfiction but this book was very well written from start to finish.

Stargirl-Book Review and Recommendation

The book we read is Star girl.Star girl is by Jerry Spinelli. The book Stargirl takes place in Arizona. here are Two different points of view of the book star girl.1Some main events in this story is when star girl goes to a basket ball game as a cheer leader and cheers for e other team. her team mates and the rest of the basket ball fans get mad at her and she is know longer popular.the second main event is when Stargirl makes a big sign tat says STARGIRL LOVES LEO! and Leo gets really mad.
The second point of veiw is Star girl is about a girl who goes to high school and is very diffent. Also,it's about Leo falling in love with Star girl (their relationhip goes up and down in the story).

One of our favorite parts in the book is when star girl sings to Leo when it is not even his birthday. Another favorite part is when after Star girl becomes normal she goes back to how she really is and doesn't care what other people think of her.I recommend Stargirl for people who like's deep storys. Also for (girls) who like the boyfriend girlfriend thing! I whold rate this book 4 stars out of 5 stars because it is a really good book but in some parts of the storry it is hard to understand. And Stargirl is a great character with a lot of personality i can imagine exactly what Stargirl looks like.

The Graveyard Book

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is an intense mystery book. The main character is Bod. He is raised by ghosts because his parents and siblings re murdered by The Man Jack.
Jack is sent to kill Bod's family because.... you have to read the book! His "parents" are Mr. and Mrs. Owens. They're ghosts who where chosen to become Bod's parents because later his mother died, her spirit came to the Owens when they found him. She screamed "My baby!" and the Owens knew they had to take him. His guardian is Silas, who gives him food and water to survive.
Bod is about 1-2 years older every chapter. When Bod is 5, he meets a girl named Scarlet. They get separated because Scarlet moved. Years later, they meet up again.
Scarlet had a dream about him after she saw him, she knew she recognized him!

My favorite part of the book is that the author uses such good description. I loved the whole book! It makes you feel like you're really there!

I recommend this book to anyone who likes intense mystery books. The book turned out differently then I thought.... Either way, I loved the book! It's a bit scary because I listened the the author read the book on the computer. He has a scary English accent. It made the book more scary. I recommend this book to anyone that likes intense, scary, mystery books.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, takes place mainly at the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland. The story takes place during World War II (1940s) while the Nazis are busy shipping Jewish people to concentration camps around Europe. The mood of the novel is mostly somber and depressing.

The novel is told from the perspective of Bruno, a 10-year-old German boy who is very naïve about the tragic events occurring around him. The other main characters include his father, a high ranking Nazi official who has been appointed Commandant of the Auschwitz camp, his mother, and his older sister Gretal, who he continuously refers to as the “The Hopeless Case.” At the beginning of the novel, Bruno’s family must move from their comfortable life in Berlin to the Auschwitz camp due to the father’s promotion. Bruno is very upset about leaving his friends and wonderful house behind, especially when he discovers how isolated and boring his new home is. Eventually, Bruno discovers that there are thousands of people wearing “stripped pajamas” (i.e., prison uniforms) living in the fenced-in area near his house. Because he is young, Bruno does not understand what’s really happening. While out exploring one day, Bruno befriends a Jewish boy name Schmuel who he meets by the fence. Over the course of the next year, the two boys meet repeatedly at the fence, talk about their lives, and become close friends in the process.

My favorite part of the book is that it is told through the eyes of an innocent, naïve 10-year-old boy. In doing so, the author creates many though-provoking scenes that make the reader question the existence of evil in the world. Specifically, how was the Holocaust was able to happen? Was is because all German people were evil, or was it because most German people were too scared to stand up for good?

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction that takes place during World War II. If you liked Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, you will absolutely love this book.

Al Capone Book One-Book Review and Recommendation

Al Capone Does my shirts is a book by Gennifer Choldenko that takes place in 1935 in Alcatraz during the Great Depression. The book is about a 12 year old boy named Moose with his sister named Natalie which has a severe case of Autism. Moose's family lives on Alcatraz because his father has a job there as a prison guard and an electrician. Alcatraz is a prison where really bad criminals go. Natalie did not get accepted to Esther P. Marinoff which is a special needs school so Moose is stuck with her.

Some things we liked about the book is when Piper, a mean girl, makes people pay 5 cents to get their shirts washed by Al Capone. Another thing we liked about the story is when Natalie met one of the prisoners nicknamed onion gave her a baseball. One of our favorite phrases of the story is "Moose your better with Natalie than I am" said Mrs. Flanagan. We recommend this to people who like realistic and historical fiction.

Absolutely Normal Chaos-Book Review and Recommendation

Absolutely Normal Chaos By: Sharon Creech
Absolutely Normal Chaos is a great book teaching us about one of life's greatest lessons, not to judge a book by its cover, and that life can never be perfect, even though it seems when things get good and cant get better, things go horribly and can't get any worse.
The story line is how Carl Ray came to "The Big City" to find work and to find something else, a father. Carl Ray found out that the father raising him was not his biological father, so he went out to find his real father. On his journey he found out many life lessons more valuable then finding his father.
My favorite part in the book was when Mary Lou (the main character) had to go in the out house on Carl Rays farm and her hilarious remarks.
I strongly recommend this book to people who like comedy. If you happen to stumble on this book READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
