Touching Spirit Bear-Book Summary

Touching Spirit Bear is a wonderful book. This book follows the life of Cole Mathews as he redeems himself after committing a crime (beating up a boy, Peter Driscal.) He considers himself to be lucky because instead of going to jail he goes to a remote island in Alaska. His new home for the next year consists of a hut by the ocean and tools that will help him along the way. The first time Cole went to the island he just kept making it harder and harder to survive until he couldn't. The reason for his soon ending stay at the island is caused by Cole getting mauled by a bear. After 6 months of recovering he goes back to the island to finish what he started. Once Cole's stay was almost over he insisted for Peter to come visit for a while, thinking maybe Peter could make up with him. In the end Cole had made an extraordinary change from community bully to a wise young man.

We believe that this book was one of the best books Ben Mikaelsen wrote. What are your thoughts on the book?

It's a great book, a little depressing, but I would say it's good for people who like serious books.

Agreed, sad book, but a very real feeling book, I liked the detail. One thing that was not under my likings was the graphic detail when Cole gets mauled by the bear! I never would like to go though that! Anyone else agree? (People who have read the book)
